Deed works with our payment processing partners to disburse all funds; they also provide the highest level of nonprofit vetting for security and peace of mind.
- Deed works with several donation disbursement partners around the globe to ensure the best experience for clients and nonprofits. Our partners include PayPal Giving Fund, Network for Good, and GlobalGiving. Together we work to ensure that each nonprofit is fully vetted and that donation disbursement is secure.
- Deed also supports enrolling nonprofits not already available on the platform. If there is a nonprofit unavailable for donations on Deed, we work with our payment processing partners to get them vetted and available.
Below, we outline each partner’s vetting criteria as well as the process for adding a nonprofit.
PayPal Giving Fund
Our primary partner is the PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF). As the world’s largest payment processor, PayPal has a rigorous vetting process.
☝ The duration of the vetting process varies by country, but is generally around 3-5 business days after submission of all necessary documents and information.
-
What is the criteria for PPGF's vetting?
- Identity verification of primary account holders
- Verification of authorization for primary account holder to open accounts
- Know Your Customer (KYC) validation of organizations
- Confirmation of registration with local organizations
- Regular OFAC/sanctions checks
- Fraud checks
- Partnerships with other international vetting organizations like TechSoup
Additional info for vetting in the United States
Paypal has a monthly AML review to ensure charities comply with our nonprofit standards and regulatory rules per what country the organization is based in. In the U.S., PPGF validates its data through GuideStar and Armour on a monthly basis to ensure charity status is up to standard with national charity regulators.
☝ If a charity is unenrolled and hasn't been reviewed before, it will go through AML review before being paid out. If there is an issue, it will be caught then.
GlobalGiving
GlobalGiving is the largest global crowdfunding community, which connects donors to nonprofits in Afghanistan to Zimbabwe (and hundreds of places in between). GlobalGiving has a very substantial database of vetted global charities and also provides timely disaster relief campaigns.
☝ GlobalGiving performs rigorous due diligence on every organization in the GlobalGiving community in order to ensure they are performing charitable work in a transparent and accountable manner, and that they meet local requirements for registration with their local government.
- What is the criteria for GlobalGiving's vetting?
- Collection and review of legal documents, financial records, program materials, and lists of senior staff and board members
- Evaluate organizations’ capacity to implement stated purpose
- Research organizations’ relationship with previous funders
- Ensure organizations are compliant with anti-terror and international guidelines
- Ongoing requirement to submit quarterly project reports of all activities/results
Network for Good
While PayPal is our primary donation processing partner, Deed partners with NFG for additional nonprofits. NFG is a hybrid nonprofit/for-profit, which uses technology to securely and efficiently distribute donations to domestic US charities
-
What is the criteria for NFG’s vetting?
- Must be a public charity
- Private foundations, C4 organizations, and non-functionally integrated supporting organizations are not eligible for DAF donations
- Must be in good standing with the IRS
- Incorporation of GuideStar from Guidestar, including indications of deductibility and whether the organization has opted-out of online donations
Note: If the organization would be blocked if:
- The nonprofit is currently listed on IRS Pub 78 and IRS BMF
- Organizations eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions are listed on the IRS Pub 78
- The IRS Business Master File (BMF) lists all exempt organizations
Stripe
Information from Stripe: When we get a prospective client who is in the nonprofit sector, we internally routinely check 501(c)3 status on the IRS website and confirm that donations account for at least 80% of payment processing to confirm their nonprofit status.
- Please note, we do not do matching via Stripe!
