Donation Tracking & Disbursement Timelines

  • Updated

Overview

Donations have varying disbursement timelines based on two factors:

  • Employee or Corporate donation
  • Payment processing partner
    • The payment processor of a donation is dependent on the country where the nonprofit is located

Employee Donations

How it works

  • Employee donations are donations made by the employee with their own money (via credit card, PayPal, etc.)
    • Note - this does not cover employee payroll donations
  • Our payment processing partners for employee donations are: PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF), Network For Good, PayPal Direct (PPD), and GlobalGiving.

Timeline

It’s important to the Deed team that donations make it to the designated nonprofit in a timely and efficient manner. We work closely with our payment processing partners to ensure this is the case.

  • Employee donations are donations made by the employee with their own money (via credit card, PayPal, etc.)
  • We leverage our payment processing partners' APIs to process these donations in real time.

PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF) and GlobalGiving (GG)

  • Donations made through PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF) and GlobalGiving are generally disbursed during the last week of the month that the donation was made (usually around the 25th). Charities are paid monthly, either via PayPal (if the charity is enrolled directly with PPGF), or by check (if not directly enrolled). Payments are made 15-45 days after the date of donation. All donations made between the 16th of one month and the 15th of the next month are disbursed no later than the last business day of that month.
  • For example:
    • A donation made on March 28th will be disbursed on April 30 (the following month)
    • A donation made on April 13th will be disbursed on April 30!

PayPal Direct (PPD)

  • For donations through PayPal Direct (PPD), the nonprofit determines how to receive those funds after they are disbursed in monthly batches.

Network For Good (NFG)

  • When your intended charity will receive your donation:
    • NFG sends funds once a month.
  • For all donations that are above $10:
    • Funds will be sent the 15th day of the month (or the first business day after the 15th) following the month in which it the donation was made.
      • Example: A donation made any time in November, will be disbursed on/around December 15th.
    • In general, funds will be sent no later than 80 days after the date of your donation, with the specific timing determined by factors including the date your donation was made, the date it was placed in the NFG system, and the number of business days in a month.
  • For all donations that are below $10:
    • Funds for a given charity will roll over until the payout amount reaches the $10 threshold. The $10 minimum payout amount is lowered to $1 once a year to send out payments less than $10.

How do nonprofits receive their donations?

  • Nonprofits that are registered for ACH will receive their donations via direct deposit (ACH).

  • Nonprofits that are not registered for ACH will receive a paper check.

Tracking employee donations

  • Donations made to PayPal nonprofits (so, being processed by PPGF or PPD) are easily trackable through PayPal’s donation tracker. In an employee’s Profile > Donations > individual donation, they’ll see the Reference number of the donation and can easily search for it through the tracker. We also provide a direct link to that tracker.

  • For GlobalGiving & NFG disbursements, you’ll also receive a reference number and can reach out to support@joindeed.com for additional info as needed!
  • Donation match tracking links for PayPal nonprofits can also be found in your profile, under "Match Tracker."

Corporate Matches & Donations (including Payroll)

How it works

  • Corporate donations are donations made with corporate funds on the Deed platform.
    • Examples include corporate matching of employee donations, Payroll donations, and donation credit donations.
  • NOTE: Disbursement timelines can be impacted by corporate admin approval of match requests and timely payroll deductions.

☝ Quick tip: When your company covers donation fees and you make a donation e.g. $100, you will be charged $100. The nonprofit will then receive $100 - cost of the fees. When the fee gets processed, the nonprofit will receive that fee to make your $100 donation whole.
