🤗 How do I volunteer on Deed?

  • Updated

To volunteer on Deed:

  • Navigate to the Volunteer section at the top of the page and browse Volunteer Events and Projects.
  • You can filter by Time, Date, and Causes, as well as search the name of the nonprofit.
  • If you have a specific, U.S.-based nonprofit in mind, you can search the organization by their EIN number.

Log volunteer hours ✍️

Hours associated with deeds

  • For in-person Volunteer Events, ‘checking-in’ on the platform will automatically log your hours. Many Volunteer Events however are virtual, and for those you’ll need to log hours. On eligible deeds, you’ll see the option to Log Hours. Once you submit, your request will go to an Admin for approval. You’ll get a notification if your hours have been approved or rejected. If approved, they’ll display in your profile.
  • For Projects, if you manually track your hours using the Log Hours button on the deed, at the end of the Project we won't add the estimated role hours on top of the hours you've already manually tracked!

Off platform hours

You can also log hours for any volunteer time you have participated in outside of Deed and your company. You can do this any time in your Profile. Find the orange 'Log Hours' button on the top right.

☝️ If your nonprofit is not listed, select “Skip this step” to tell us more about your volunteer opportunity!

Here's a short video on how to log volunteer hours:

Auto-log, auto-approve

Some companies have auto-logging and auto-approval tuned on for employee logging hours.

Here's how it works:

  • After a volunteer event ends, the scheduled event hours will be added to your profile and go towards your total number of volunteer hours. You will have the option to adjust these hours up to two weeks after the event.
  • After a project ends, the hours estimated for your role will be added to your profile and go towards your total number of volunteer hours. You will have the option to adjust these hours up to two weeks after the end of the project.
  • You can still manually track hours with the Log Hours button on deeds, or with the Log Hours button on your Profile. Your can also track volunteer hours from events outside of Deed with the Log Hours button on your Profile.

Volunteer time matching, aka Deed Credits ⏳

Some companies have Volunteer Time Matching policies – or Dollars for Doers. At Deed we call these Deed Credits!

  • For each hour of volunteer time you participate in (either from checking into an Event, logging hours on a Project or an Event, or from logging hours outside of Deed) Deed Credits will be added to your Deed Credit balance. On eligible deeds, you’ll clearly see how many dollars of credit you’ll receive.
  • You can find your Credit Balance at any time on your Profile. You can donate these funds however you would like. We recommend donating to the nonprofit you volunteered with!
